Why should I choose DHC?

Dominion Herbal College (DHC) is a 3rd generation family-owned business based in Vancouver, Canada and is North America’s Oldest School of Herbal Medicine since 1926. DHC is an Accredited Institution with thousands of graduates worldwide and has been the inspiration of many great Herbalists including Dr. John Christopher, Dr. Bernard Jensen, Ella Birzneck, Jethro Kloss and Dr. Earl Mindell. Is Dominion Herbal College Accredited?

DHC is an Accredited Institution recognized by the Government of Canada and Province of British Columbia. Accreditation is one of the most important factors for students to consider when selecting an academic program and institution. Accreditation (or Designation) means that DHC and its Herbal Medicine programs have gone through a rigorous review and evaluation process by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia confirming the quality of DHC and its Herbal Medicine programs.

DHC is a BC EQA-designated educational institution, a Designated Institution #283 with the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the BC Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI #O19330170302) with Citizenship and Immigration Canada allowing international students to study in all DHC programs. Are Herbalists licensed?

Herbal Medicine is currently not regulated in Canada or the United States. Graduates of our Clinical Herbal Therapy Diploma Program can obtain a business license and liability insurance to practice as a Clinical Herbal Therapist and are eligible for professional membership with the American Herbalists Guild (AHG), Ontario Herbalist Association (OHA) and British Columbia Herbalists Association (BCHA). Completion of our Herbal Medicine programs may count towards the educational requirements for membership in Herbalist Associations such as the AHG, OHA and BCHA. International students should confirm licensing requirements and membership eligibility with regulatory bodies and/or Herbalist Associations in the country in which they reside.

What are my Career Opportunities after graduation?

Chartered Herbalist
This program is a great way to learn about herbs, take better care of your family’s health, complement your current profession, earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs), enhance job opportunities with a basic knowledge of herbs or begin a career in Herbal Medicine. It is also useful for those employed in health-related businesses.

Master Herbalist
Graduates of the Master Herbalist Diploma Program often have their thesis published or utilize this specialized knowledge as freelance writers, lecturers and instructors.

Herbal Consulting
This program is suitable for individuals working or seeking employment in health food stores, herb shops & dispensaries, pharmacies, supermarkets, network marketing, online stores or wherever herbs are sold and for individuals producing, wholesaling or distributing herbs and herbal products. Some graduates also do over-the-counter consulting and conduct workshops.

Clinical Herbal Therapy
This advanced clinical program of study will prepare the student with the working knowledge and skills necessary to practice as a Clinical Herbal Therapist (CHT) or work in other areas of Herbal Medicine as an instructor, researcher, writer, retailer, medicine maker, consultant to the industry or a community resource person.

Can I complete your programs online?

Our programs are completed via distance learning. The Chartered Herbalist, Master Herbalist and Herbal Consulting Diploma Programs are completed online. The Clinical Herbal Therapy Diploma Program utilizes a blended delivery method of online and on-site learning. Go to our Programs page to see the “Delivery & Instructional Methods” for each program.

How long are your programs?

Our diploma programs vary in length from 6 months to 4 years. Some programs have a fixed academic year from September to August and other programs are ongoing enrollment which means that students can start anytime and complete the program at their own pace.

Chartered Herbalist
Students can start this program at any time and have up to 12 months to complete the program. Students complete the lessons and final exam at their own pace and on their own schedule. Some students complete the program in 6 months and others require the full 12 months.

Master Herbalist
Students can start this program at any time and have up to 12 months to do research and complete their thesis.

Herbal Consultant
The program duration is one year. The academic year is 12 months and runs from September through August.

Clinical Herbal Therapy
The program duration is four years. Each academic year is 12 months and runs from September through August.

What are the costs of your Programs?

To view the cost of each program, please go to our Programs page. You will find the “Admission Requirements” for a program when you click on that program’s page.

How do I pay for a program?

When completing your Student Enrollment Contract you will select your method of payment. After you have submitted your Student Enrollment Contract, the Registrar will review and approve your application. Upon approval, you will receive an invoice via email with a secure payment link if you are paying electronically. All program fees are in Canadian dollars and can be paid electronically via Interac e-Transfer, PayPal, Debit or Credit Card. Payment by money order or cheque must be sent directly to DHC via courier or mail.

Are your programs eligible for Student Aid?

Canadian students are eligible to apply for Canada Student Loans for all of our programs. Please visit Canada.ca for information about Canada Student Loans.

Do I receive a diploma when I graduate?

Yes, you receive a diploma upon successful completion of a Dominion Herbal College program. The diploma displays your name and the title you receive when graduating from that respective program.

Will I receive a designation when I graduate?

A designation is a title earned after completing a certification program in a professional field.

You can use the following title after graduation from a respective program:

Chartered Herbalist (CH)
Master Herbalist (MH)
Herbal Consultant (HC)
Clinical Herbal Therapist (CHT)

How do I apply?

Once you have decided on your program, you must complete a Student Enrollment Contract and provide evidence that you meet the Academic Requirements for the program. Your application will be evaluated and if you are approved, you will be notified by the Registrar. Go to our Programs page and click the Apply button to complete your Student Enrollment Contract for your selected program online. You can also download a PDF version of the Student Enrollment Contract by clicking the “Enrollment Contract” button on the program page.

Can I start anytime?

The Chartered Herbalist and Master Herbalist Diploma Programs are ongoing enrollment and students can start anytime. The Herbal Consulting and Clinical Herbal Therapy Diploma Programs have one intake each September. Go to our Programs page for additional information.

Are there Admission Requirements for your Programs?

To view the Admission Requirements, please go to our Programs page. You will find the “Admission Requirements” for a program when you click on that program’s page.

How do I submit proof of my Admission Requirements?

If you are applying online using the online Student Enrollment Contract, you will upload proof of your Admission Requirements during the application process. If you are applying via email using a PDF version of the Student Enrollment Contract, proof of Admission Requirements must be attached to the email as a PDF file.
