Online Distance Learning (1 Year)
This 1-year program creates a balance between the western scientific approach to the study of Herbal Medicine and the traditional North American model. Students will have a sound knowledge of the basic health sciences as they relate to Herbal Medicine. Students will learn how to assess and formulate herbal products, become familiar with the efficacy and safe use of herbs, produce and market herbs for industry, and consult with customers in a knowledgeable and professional manner.

About the Program
Career Opportunities: This advanced program of study will prepare the student with the working knowledge and skills necessary to become a competent Herbal Consultant. This program is suitable for individuals seeking employment in health food stores, herb shops & dispensaries, pharmacies, supermarkets, network marketing, online stores & marketplaces, or wherever herbs are sold; and for individuals producing, manufacturing, wholesaling or distributing herbs and herbal products.
Admission Requirements:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma or Mature Student (19 years or older)
- High School Level Chemistry or Dominion Herbal College Prerequisite Chemistry
- Dominion Herbal College Chartered Herbalist Diploma Program
Program Duration: The program duration is one year. The academic year is 12 months (1320 hours) from September through August.
Delivery & Instructional Methods: The Herbal Consulting Diploma Program is delivered via a combination of asynchronous and synchronous distance learning. Course work is completed by asynchronous distance learning with a 3-day online, synchronous seminar prior to midterm exams and final exams.
Program Information: The program consists of questions at the end of the lessons in the following courses: Biochemistry, Botany, Materia Medica I, Nutrition, Pathology, Pharmacology and Pharmacy. Course lessons are completed and submitted online using the Moodle learning management system. This program requires 20-30 hours per week of self-directed learning. Students are provided with a Required Textbook List and Supplementary Resources List. Students are required to complete a Herbarium and attend two 3-day online seminars in February and July. Students will write midterm exams and final exams in Materia Medica I, Nutrition, Pathology and Pharmacology. Exams are written online. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be awarded a diploma with the title “Herbal Consultant”.
Student Loans: Canadian students are eligible to apply for Canada Student Loans for this program. BC residents can apply for student loans online through StudentAidBC and non-BC residents can go to Canada Student Loans to learn how to apply through their home province.
This program has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.
